A NEW COLLABORATION IS BORN
I turn on the ignition, the engine starts. Curiosity gains ground. Excitement takes over. Heading towards the Silo in Brussels.
After a smooth journey, I catch sight of the path leading to the Silo. I stop for a moment in front of this red brick building, half of whose surface is covered in vegetation. I really like the setting, and I feel an irresistible urge to discover more about this place with its industrial past.
At the entrance, I immediately notice a metal structure lying on the ground, repurposed as the Silo sign. I feel a growing excitement within me. When I park, I can already see Alan Aaron, the master of ceremonies, coming towards me to welcome me. The reception is warm, simple, and friendly.
To provide some context, Alan is the Artistic Director of the collective E-KLOZIN’ - Electronic Music, Arts and Board Sports, a non-profit organisation based in Paris with a branch in Brussels since 2021. The collective, which was established in 2006, aims to showcase talent through intimate performances in unusual venues. A mindset focused on respect, exchange, creativity, and kindness—essentially, good vibes only! Their new project will take place in a hidden room at Silo Brussels.
AN OLD GRAIN SILO CONVERTED INTO AN EVENT VENUE
The facade of Silo is impressive. The entrance is accessed via a route that, in the past, was probably a loading and unloading dock for grains. The door seems tiny in comparison to the grandeur of the building.
Once inside, I realise the vastness of the place. Alan gives me a tour of the property. We move from one room to another, from one hall to another, from one atmosphere to another. I take the opportunity to snap a few pictures. I am left speechless. It’s the first time I’ve seen such an unusual place. Everything has been renovated. You could fit hundreds, even thousands of people in here, organise several events at the same time, allowing desires and passions to overlap.
I still do not fully realise the potential that this place has. One thing is for sure, the setting is right for a performance that will not go unnoticed.
E-KLOZIN' SPOTLIGHT, A UNIFYING CONCEPT WHERE COLLECTIVES ARE ELEVATED
Spotlight is the audiovisual project of the collective E-KLOZIN’, it is a crossover performance between a visual artist and a musical artist, all filmed with multiple cameras, and then broadcast afterwards on their YouTube channel.
The day has arrived. The team is more than motivated. Will, Jarno, Camille and I are arriving at the venue. It’s already dark. Everyone grabs their gear, on the way to an evening that promises to be memorable.
After crossing the threshold, the magic of the place takes hold of us. The team is enchanted; we no longer know where to turn. The night holds within it a kind of singular magic that gives it all its charm, an immersive and enveloping feeling that only it can provide.
It is now time for the meetings, starting with the team from Fire Station Bruxelles, art enthusiasts and mixology experts. Mimi and John were present with their team to offer cocktails and mocktails specially created for the occasion, as well as something to fill empty stomachs in search of food.
Next, we make our way through the Silo, following the increasingly prominent sound of the bass as we progress. The smell of smoke and the sound waves take hold of our senses. We climb a first set of stairs, then a second. Voices can be heard, and we make new acquaintances, this time on the roof of the Silo. We are pleased to meet Arthur and Max, founding members of direct.output, who will be in charge of the show mapping and laser throughout the evening.
The meetings follow one another with Pierre Destouches, the cameraman, and Sylvain Crasset, The photographer with whom we exchanged a few words before finally finding Alan, who was busy with the final technical adjustments. Just a few more steps to the venue reserved for the event, usually inaccessible to the general public. We are amazed by the setting, an industrial atmosphere, a dancefloor with a unique geometry, a sort of prism open at its top with an adjoining room serving as a chill room. An extraordinary visual mapping show, a room straight out of a science fiction film, and an informed audience already being transcended by the intoxicating musical layers. On the decks, we had the pleasure of listening to the superb mix of Uzuki, as a warm-up to follow up on the minimal and deep techno notes of Edgar Marlowe and Tanguy.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO IMMORTALISE OUR MEETINGS
While waiting for the highlight of the show with the exclusive mix of Amalie In this incredible place, we seized the opportunity to set up our equipment in order to conduct interviews with some of the participants mentioned above. We chose a secluded room, a cosy and muted lounge completely out of reach of sound influences; to ensure a flawless recording, and at the same time, to make the interviewees feel at ease.
We invite you to admire everything in images with the following photo gallery. And keep an eye out from February onwards to discover the filmed interviews on our social media, one after the other. The filmed set of Amalie, shot by the E-KLOZiN’ team, will be released in March. Until then, we hope you enjoy the fruit of this first collaboration with E-KLOZIN’, collectives driven by enthusiasts for enthusiasts!
